Noooooo.....it's too soon

A couple of weeks ago, I received notification from Olivia's daycare center that it's time to register her for nursery school for the year 2009/2010. I remember thinking it can't be....nursery school?? Where did the time go??

I also didn't realise that nursery school registration could be so competitive. There are several programs available and hubby and I have not decided which program to register Olivia in. So, when registration opened at 7pm on Monday, I didn't register her that night. The next morning, the administrator told me there was only 1 spot left for the particular program we wanted!!

Needless to say, I fill out the form there and then and paid the $200 deposit to secure a spot. Who knows if she exaggerated the fact that there's only 1 spot left. Never would I imagine I have to be so 'kiasu' in registering for nursery school. Come on.....it's only nursery school, right???

You bet I will not make that mistake again next year when registration open for Pre-K. YIKES...Pre-K??!! I don't want to think about it!!!!

beachlover - Olivia's nursery program is nursery plus daycare. Some school district have Pre K, some don't. You 'll have to check your school district. Even though Olivia is a Nov baby, we are not planning to hold her back.

june - yalor...I was shocked about the limited places.

HI, there are some nurseries here which set a test for the child before they admit him/her and also itnerview the parents first to see if they are qualified?

Qualified for what? Test for what? I am equally baffled.

Don't want to be kiasu also cannot. But didn't know the competition exists in US as well! I thought only Asians!

ann - test at nursery level?? I think that's a bit too much. In US, I suppose nurseries that are good will attract a lot of parents and the daycare/school that Olivia attend has a good program and is well known.
